SUMMER STUDENT LABOURERS

The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board is seeking qualified applicants for Summer Student Labourer positions.  The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board provides public education in a variety of urban and rural centres within the geographic areas of the County of Northumberland, the County of Peterborough and the Municipality of Clarington.

PURPOSE OF JOB:

All positions in the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board support the schools’ priority of student achievement and the Board’s mission to educate our students to excel in learning, to succeed in life and to enrich our communities.

The Summer Student Labourer is a term position supporting the Board-wide Project initiative to enhance the public’s positive perception of the quality of Board properties.  This position reports to the Custodial Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:                                                        

1. Enrolled in post secondary school
2. 6 months to 1 year experience in landscaping is an asset
3. Valid driver’s’ licence
4. Experience in use of lawn care equipment
5. Excellent organization, communication and interpersonal skills
6. Mechanical aptitude and grounds maintenance/landscaping experience is an asset

DUTIES:

1. Maintain flower beds, weed, prune shrubs and maintain the landscaped areas of the school property
2. Trim grass, pull weeds, rake leaves and properly dispose of waste material
3. Apply landscaping material as needed
4. Window washing
5. Minor repairs and apply touch-up paint to exterior of building
6. Performs other duties as assigned by the Custodial Supervisor

Preference will be given to students currently enrolled in post secondary school.  These positions will begin on May 3, 2010 and finish the last week in August 2010. These positions will report to the Lakeshore Facility Centre, located in Newtonville, ON.

A Police Records Check (including a vulnerable sector search) valid within six months from the date of hire is a condition of employment with our Board.   Applicants for the above must be physically fit and will be required to under a Functional Assessment to determine their ability to perform the physical aspects of the position.  Safety boots are required for these positions.
