Amigos in the Community is a project that provides opportunities for young adults with an intellectual disability to participate regularly in leisure and recreational activities with the support of a volunteer Amigo Connector without a disability.
We are currently seeking Amigo Connectors , people between the ages of 18 and 26, who are interested in volunteering their time to meet with a person with an intellectual disability. We match people, Amigos , based on similar interests.
What is expected? We expect Amigos to meet once every 2 weeks to participate in a recreational or leisure type activity.
What we provide is ongoing support from our coordinator, in building the relationship. In addition, we provide funding to cover costs of activities the Amigos are involved in.

Overall, your volunteer experience will be an extremely rewarding and wonderful learning opportunity, while providing you skills such as, listening, communication, motivation, leadership, advocacy, initiative, and empathy, all of which, reflect well on any resume.
